Gouritz River Bridge

Project description

The South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) is always keen on maintaining the country’s infrastructure in a perfect condition. Hence their slogan ‘Building South Africa through better roads’.

As a result of aging and heavy traffic, some key long span bridges (built between 1978 and 1990) had shown evidence of deterioration and poor condition of the expansion joints.

Consequently, SANRAL launched a project aiming to replace and refurbish these
expansion joints on various routes in the Western Cape, including Swartklip and Stellenberg Interchanges, and Gouritz River Bridge.

mageba scope

Meeting with the highest standards, mageba won the tender and supplied heavy-duty TENSA-FINGER RSFD joints for Swartklip and Stellenberg Interchanges, and for the Gouritz River Bridge.

The joints were all locally certified by Agrément SA.

mageba provided 6 TENSA-FINGER RSFD-B joints (4 joints with 140 mm movement capacity and 2 joints with 250 mm movement capacity) with a total length of 65 m.

All joints were supplied with non-slip top surfaces. Their connections were done without welding according to the client’s request.

The installation works also required particular attention, which was ensured by the supervision of mageba experts throughout the replacement works.
