Rozelle Interchange

Project description

The Rozelle Interchange is a new underground motorway interchange in the
Rozelle suburb of Sydney, which provides connections to the M4-M5 Link Tunnels, to the City West Link, and to the underground bypass of Victoria Road between Iron Cove Bridge and Anzac Bridge. In addition, it will also connect the future Western Harbour Tunnel.

The interchange in Rozelle will be mostly underground, and tunnelling will be conducted from the site of the old Rozelle Rail Yards. It will provide an alternative transport option in Rozelle and at the same time transforms an unused area of the suburb into a 10-hectare large open space.

The project will greatly support the city’s long-term economic and population growth by easing congestions, creating jobs and connecting communities.

mageba scope

In 2021, mageba was involved in the construction of Rozelle Interchange by providing 21 RESTON-SPHERICAL bearings, with a maximum vertical load of up to 25,900 kN. The bearings were all fabricated from 100 % stainless steel instead of carbon steel to minimize the risk of corrosion and therefore maximizing the service life of the products.

With the stainless steel bearings installed, the long-term cost could be reduced substantially by minimizing the need to replace them as a result of a longer service life, especially if the environmental benefits of the maximised service life are taken into account.

All bearings installed were manufactured locally in our Australian production facility and tested in our NATA-certified laboratory.
