Bearing capacity

The recent opening of mageba India’s new manufacturing facility in Kolkata has tripled the company’s bearing production capacity – just in time to supply 36,000 elastomeric bearings for the construction of India’s first “Bullet Train” railway line.

mageba India’s construction of its newest factory building in Kolkata was necessitated by the growing demand, from both the domestic and overseas markets, for elastomeric bearings. The state-of-the-art workshop has a total area of 1,600 m2, of which 1,100 m2 is used for manufacturing, and has the capacity to produce about 120 tons of rubber compound per month, using approx. 85 tons of raw rubber. This has tripled the subsidiary’s production capacity for LASTO®BLOCK elastomeric bearings and for seismic isolators of the LASTO®LRB (lead rubber bearing) and LASTO®HDRB (high-damping rubber bearing) type.

Great credit is due to our colleagues at mageba India, who designed and manufactured much of the new facility’s manufacturing machinery – e.g. vulcanising presses, cranes and the corrosion protection chamber. The facility also houses a fully equipped testing lab, where the end products can be tested in accordance with various standards before being transported to site for installation.

One of the new facility’s first major orders is to manufacture more than 36,000 structural elastomeric bearings for India’s first “Bullet Train” railway line between Mumbai and Ahmedabad – an undertaking that would scarcely be possible without the enormous increase in production capacity facilitated by the timely construction of the new factory.

mageba India’s newest factory building in Kolkata has a total area of 1,600 m2, mostly dedicated to the fabrication of elastomeric bearings and seismic isolators

The construction in 2022 of mageba India’s new production facility in Kolkata has tripled the subsidiary’s production capacity for elastomeric bearings and seismic isolators

The new factory in Kolkata is equipped with all the machinery required to fabricate elastomeric bearings, such as this rubber rolling machine

The new fabrication facility is also equipped with several vulcanising presses for use in fabricating elastomeric bearings and seismic isolators

The new facility also houses a testing laboratory where the manufactured bearings can be tested in accordance with various national and international standards

The new factory will be used to manufacture seismic isolators of the LASTO®LRB (lead rubber bearing) kind

LASTO®BLOCK elastomeric bearings, as shown here during installation in a bridge structure, will also be produced in the new factory

Many of the bearings manufactured in the new Kolkata factory will be seismic isolators of the LASTO®HDRB (high-damping rubber bearing) type – such as this one shown following completion of installation
