U.S. 70 Slocum Road Intersection

Project description

The U.S. 70 Slocum Road Intersection project, in Craven County North Carolina, involved the construction of a bridge that will route eastbound vehicles up and over westbound lanes of U.S. 70 for easier access to Cherry Point.

The project was designed to alleviate traffic congestion, especially during the morning and afternoon rush hours, along the U.S. 70 Slocum Road Intersection, as many workers and residents enter Cherry Point via Slocum Gate.

The current U.S. 70 Slocum Road Intersection has been the location of frequent road accidents in Havelock, despite of the traffic lights.

The overall cost of the project is $20.51 million.

mageba scope

For the U.S. Slocum Road Intersection Project, mageba’s strip seal expansion joints were selected to meet the specific needs of the North Carolina DOT.

Two TENSA-FORCE RG10 joints measuring 42 ft (12.8 m) each with two cover plates per joint at both ends of the span as per project requirements were produced and delivered to site.

All joints were designed and manufactured in accordance to specified bid drawings approved by NCDOT.

Corrosion protection with sandblasting SSPC-SP10 and metallization with zinc-rich paint system was performed as per the NCDOT specifications.
