Cibeles Tower

Project description

The Cibeles Tower is an office building of modern architecture, located in the Roma Norte neighborhood. Its construction began in 1966 and ended in 1967.

Due to the design standards used at the time prior to the 1985 and 2017 earthquakes, it was necessary to undertake a major renovation of the structure to improve the building’s seismic response based on updated seismic design regulations in Mexico. After a detailed structural analysis, it was decided to reinforce the structure with 84 viscous dampers.

mageba scope

RESTON®SA shock absorbers were selected and designed for a maximum load of 1,000 kN and a movement capacity of +/– 50 mm. The dampers were manufactured and tested at mageba in Shanghai according to the EN15129 standard.

This building became the third reinforced structure including seismic protection dampers in Mexico City thus complying with the new seismic design regulations.
