Aurach Bridge

Project description

The Aurach Bridge, near the village of Ohlsdorf in Upper Austria, is the highest bridge on the A1 motorway, with its pillars reaching a height of nearly 50 m. Due to its age and the high volume of traffic the bridge required to be renovated.

However, during the investigation it was found that the existing bridge has structural issues that are beyond repair, therefore the existing bridge was demolished entirely and has been rebuilt again.

In order to minimize traffic disruption as little as possible, a temporary bridge has been erected next to the existing one on auxiliary pillars. Once this bridge had been completed and traffic was transferred to the new bridge, while the existing structure, including its massive pillars, was demolished and new pillars were built. After the new pillars were ready, the superstructure of the temporary bridge was moved onto the new pillars in one piece.

mageba scope

In order to accomodate the movements of the bridge deck, mageba designed and supplied 4 TENSA-MODULAR LR4-LS100 expansion joints featuring noise-reducing “sinus plates”.

In addition to the expansion joints, bearings of the spherical type were also installed in the bridge, a total of 28 of them.

These key bridge components were installed in the temporary bridge and then moved together with the superstructure.
