The Ahmedabad Metro – Phase II project aims to extend the Ahmedabad metro network towards Gandhinagar, connecting the economic and the administrative capitals of Gujarat state.
The 28-km long metro network will feature 22 stations and two bridges, including a 303 m-long extradosed bridge over the Narmada Canal with a central span measuring 145 m.
To date, this is the longest extradosed bridge on a metro line in India.
The extension is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, and will be connected to the first phase of the network, which has been working since 2019.
For the bridge, mageba supplied its ROBO-CONTROL “Permanent” Structural Health Monitoring system, with 36 sensors including accelerometers, inclinometers, laser deflection meters and displacement transducers providing real-time data on the bridge’s structural performance.
The data received from the sensors are being analyzed by the Structural Designers and cross verified by the relevant authorities to ensure the safety of the structure.
