Apple Campus 2

Project description

The Apple Campus 2 project in Cupertino, California consists of a massive circular building with an area of over 2.8 million square feet (26,130 m2) and was designed to provide works space for 12,000 employees.

The main building incorporates a 4,000-seat cafeteria with an open ceiling reaching up to 4 stories, and fronted with full height sliding glass doors.

In addition to the main office building the project also incorporates 175 acres (708,200 m2) of surrounding buildings and open spaces including a 1,000-seat theatre, on-site fitness facilities, and other office buildings for research and development.

mageba scope

For this project TENSA-QUAKE seismic expansion joints were supplied for 20 different locations with requirements to accommodate +/-52” (+/-1,320 mm) of movements in any horizontal directions as well as +5”/-0” (+127/-0 mm) of vertical movements.

mageba provided 2,000 ft. (700 m) of joints for the pedestrian entrances, and 750 ft. (228 m) of heavy duty joints for the vehicular entrances of this enormous building.

In addition to meeting demanding technical requirements the joints at the pedestrian entrances had to fulfill strict aesthetic requirements as well.

mageba worked closely with both, the building and the landscape architects, to ensure that after installation the joints blended seamlessly with the surroundings.
