The Nanjing Dashengguan Yangtze river bridge (3rd Nanjing Yangtze Bridge) was built in 2001 and is located in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province (China), 30 km upstream of the existing 2nd Nanjing Yangtze Bridge. The structure consists of a cable stayed bridge, constructed from pre-fabricated steel segments, and two approach bridges of in-situ concrete. The whole structure has a total length of 15.6 km.
The cable stayed bridge crosses the Yangtze River, and its span width of 648 m and total length of 1’288 m made it the largest cable stayed bridge in China, and one of the largest in the world at that time. This span width was achieved using 45 pre-fabricated steel segments.
The maximum movement range of the LR13 modular expansion joint is 1,040 mm. Due to the size of this expansion joint, it was transported in parts from the mageba factory in Austria and assembled on site. The expansion joint was also treated with a special anti-slip coating to increase driver safety in wet conditions.
