TENSA® POLYFLEX® Advanced PU – flexible plug expansion joint

Flexible plug expansion joint TENSA®POLYFLEX® Advanced PU – the far superior alternative that offers all the benefits of the asphaltic plug type but overcomes its disadvantages.

This modern version of the plug-type expansion joint, which is based on the use of a polyurethane-based elastic material, can be used for any type of structure, is extremely strong, durable and quiet under traffic, and displays exceptional geometric flexibility, while also offering numerous benefits in relation to installation – particularly when used to replace an old joint of any type on an existing structure.

Key Advantages

Flexible plug expansion joints

+ more

The joint operates with little or no maintenance. In the event of damage, it is easy to repair.

+ more

No additional noise emission from crossing traffic due to the joint surface is flush with adjacent road.

+ more

Exceptionally long life span and durability under tough loads and weather conditions.

Testing

Approved durability and functionality

Comprehensive laboratory tests have confirmed performance in relation to essential expansion joint requirements.

Mechanical resistance

Resistance to vertical static load and recovery after unloading

Resistance to
fatigue

Resistance to repeated vertical dynamic load carried out as a roll-over test

Movement Capacity Test

Movement capacity under slow and fast occurring movements

Wheel tracking test

Wheel tracking comparing flexible plug joints with bituminous plug joint

Bond strength

Bond strength to concrete, polymer concrete, steel, asphalt

Durability

Durability against chemicals, e.g. oil, fuel, de-icing agents

Ageing

Ageing resulting from UV-radiation, ozone and weathering

Thermal analysis

Frost / Thaw alternating resistance tests

The polyurethane material used has proven its durability and functionality in extensive laboratory testing, resulting in the awarding of a European Technical Approval in 2012.
