Muscat City Centre Mall bridge

Project description

Muscat City Centre Mall is the largest shopping mall in the Sultanate of Oman, first opened in October 2001. In 2007, a 16-month expansion project was completed, increasing gross leasable area to approx. 60,000 square meters.

The expansion involved the construction of a 4-lane bridge to provide access to the mall’s multi-storey car park. The bridge was constructed with only minimal traffic diversions required. After the construction has finished, it became a landmark for Oman’s safe construction methods.

mageba scope

The TENSA-GRIP type RS-A80 expansion joint represented the optimal solution to the bridge’s small movement needs of up to 80 mm. The joint consists entirely of robust steel profiles, securely anchored to the bridge at each side of the movement gap, and a tough elastomeric sealing profile between them. These joints maximise the use of pure steel, without any moving or sliding parts, making them very strong, durable and low-maintenance. The bridge designer’s very particular demands for the detailing of the steel edge profiles could also be satisfied.
