Structural bearings

Characteristics

  • Typical loads: 1,000 to 250,000 kN

  • Particularly strong and compact

  • Allows very large rotations

  • Can rotate about any horizontal axis

  • ROBO-SLIDE 75 sliding material gives exceptional strength and durability

Principle

mageba RESTON-SPHERICAL bearings ensure the controlled transfer of forces between a structure’s superstructure and its substructure. The spherical bearings also facilitate rotations about every axis and movements in every direction. A convex curved element, sliding on a matching concave surface, transfers vertical forces while allowing the required rotations.

Applications

RESTON-SPHERICAL structural bearings are suitable for use in structures which require the transfer of medium to high loads, and for structures whose bearings must facilitate large cumulative sliding movements – such as suspension bridges which are susceptible to wind forces. The high-strength, high-durability sliding material used at its heart allows the spherical bearing to be designed smaller than would be possible with any other bearing type – a feature which may be of particular interest where space is limited.
