The Estadio Metropolitano, also known as the Estadio de La Peineta, is a football
stadium in Madrid, Spain, originally built in the years 1990-1994. Due to replacement of the Vicente Calderon Stadium it is the home of Atlético Madrid Football Club from beginning of the 2017–18 season. The stadium has undergone an immense renovation and reconstruction as of 2011.
Before the reconstruction the stadium had a capacity of 20,000 spectators, after its completion it accommodates seats for 73,729 football fans that will all be covered by the new roof.
In the most spectacular phase of the project, more than 6,000 tons of steel were mounted on top of the existing concrete bowl. The outer compression ring is spanning across 286 m north-south and 246 m east-west.
mageba supplied 14 units of RESTON-SPHERICAL bearings of types KA 8.8, KE 12.5 and KE 14.9.
These bearings include lower anchor plates and dust bellows to support the roof structure. They are also equipped with disc springs to partially ensure the contact of the sliding surfaces in the case of uplift movements.
In order to facilitate the installation, four bearings were delivered as free-sliding ones and were adapted to work as guided bearings after their installation.
