2nd Namhae Bridge

Project description

The 2nd Namhae Bridge is located in the southeast of the country and will link to Namhae island. With its expected opening in 2018 it is in particular intended to relieve traffic and deal with increased freight traffic.

The bridge is designed as a single-span suspension bridge featuring a 890 m main span length supported by two pylons. Its total length of 990 m is hence longer than the existing Namhae Bridge (660 m). Structural features such as the A-shaped concrete towers that lean backwards at an angle of 8 % from the vertical and the location of the towers on the land due to prevention of any impact on the marine environment, were the specific requirements of the bridge owner.

mageba scope

mageba supplied and installed TENSA-MODULAR expansion joints of type LR18-LS100 with a movement capacity of up to 1,750 mm and a total length of 41 m as well as TENSA-GRIP single gap expansion joints of type RS-LS with a total length of 46 m.

Both joint types feature so-called “sinus plates” on their surface, which reduce noise from over-passing traffic by up to 80%.

Moreover, the contract comprised four RESTON-SA hydraulic dampers with a load capacity of 750 kN and longitudinal movement capacity of ±1,000 mm (V=53 mm/s).
