ITESM University

Project description

ITESM (Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey) is a private research university based in Monterrey, where the rectorate is located.

Its network includes 35 campuses throughout Mexico including the Guadalajara campus, where the main administration building was retrofitted with suitably designed seismic protection devices in order to comply with increasingly stringent seismic protection regulations.

mageba scope

For the administration building it was decided to use RESTON-SA shock absorbers, which were installed at 84 locations. The products were designed with a load capacity of 100 kN each, and they are able to accommodate movements of +/-75 mm.

The shock absorbers were manufactured at mageba’s Shanghai subsidiary, and were tested in accordance with the EN 15129 specifications at mageba’s in-house Sismalab seismic testing laboratory.

mageba also provided advisory services during the installation process, which was very sensible considering the various configurations arising throughout the structure.
Unlike in many other projects before in Mexico, the dampers in this project were installed with less usual “chevron” and “scissor jack” configurations.
