Our team in Shanghai is proud to have been selected once again to supply the joints required for yet another major structure across the Yangtze River in the city of Nanjing – China’s eighth largest city.
The city’s newest bridge across the river is the Nanjing Xinshengwei Yangtze River Bridge, a suspension bridge with a main span of 1,760 m. For this structure, mageba supplied four TENSA®MODULAR expansion joints, each designed with 24 gaps to facilitate longitudinal movements of up to 1,920 mm in normal service. All bridge expansion joints are equipped with ROBO®GRIP anti-skid surfacing, which significantly improves driving safety in wet conditions.
Nanjing is a city that mageba has gotten to know well over the last 25 years, having previously designed and manufactured the TENSA®MODULAR expansion joints used in the construction of four of Nanjing’s Yangtze River crossings:
The 2nd Nanjing Yangtze Bridge – with 20-gap joints, installed in 2000
The 3rd Nanjing Yangtze Bridge – with 13-gap joints, installed in 2005
The 4th Nanjing Yangtze Bridge – with 19-gap joints, installed in 2012
The 5th Nanjing Yangtze Bridge – with 13-gap joints, installed in 2020
Designing, manufacturing, transporting and properly installing such enormous mechanical structures requires great expertise and experience, and that is something that mageba has gained plenty of over the years – not only in Nanjing but across China and all around the world.
