Mesaimeer Road

Project description

The goal of the Mesaimeer Road project was to upgrade an approximately 4-km-long dual carriageway in the city of Doha, Qatar.

The existing road has been widened from 3 lanes to 4 lanes in each direction and in addition to these, service roads on both side of the main carriageway were built along with 4 pedestrian bridges.

Additional works included the construction of 2 bridges with lengths of 1,200 m and 150 m using the precast segment, balanced cantilever method, and upgrades to 9 sections of the periphery roads including Whole-sale Market Street, which allowed traffic to be diverted away from Mesaimeer Road during the construction period.

The 1,200-meter-long bridge extends before Haloul Roundabout through Faleh Bin Nasser intersection in Salwa Road, where it is designed as a cable-stayed bridge to provide free traffic flow between Hamad International Airport and the areas of Bu Hamour, Mesaimeer and Al Waab.

mageba scope

To support the superstructure of the newly built bridge, mageba supplied 18 RESTON-FORCE and 92 RESTON-SPHERICAL bearings along with 18 Wedge Plates, that were necessary for the upper connection of some bearings to accommodate slopes.

Two of the spherical bearings were also fitted with sensors measuring vertical loads. All products were manufactured in mageba’s Hungarian and Turkish production facilities.

For more than a year, mageba provided technical support and service in order to advise the best solution. As an example mageba had to implement changes within the bearing design during the project phase, because available space for the bearings was limited.
