Piedrecitas and 7 South Bridges

Project description

The project consists of two “Y” shaped overpasses, the intersection 7 South and Las Piedrecitas.

Las Piedrecitas and 7 South connect two main streets in Managua to three highways leading into the interior of Nicaragua. Before the construction of the new overpasses these connections caused a significant volume of traffic.

The project will relieve the traffic of roughly 60,000 cars that use the west exit of Managua daily hence the intersections Las Piedrecitas and 7 South are very important to Managua to avoid high traffic density inside the main urban area by ensuring a continous traffic flow.

mageba scope

Seven TENSA®MODULAR expansion joints type LR11, with a movement capacity of +/− 440 mm in both longitudinal and transversal axis of displacement, were designed in collaboration with mageba Switzerland.

Each of the seven joints were manufactured at the production facility of mageba India in accordance with the high mageba standards and then shipped in containers Managua, Nicaragua.

The installation was done under the supervision of mageba Mexico, four joints were installed in the Las Piedrecitas overpass and three joints in the 7 South overpass.
