The Yamashiro region lies between the Shigaraki mountains and is featured with many roads and highways due to its proximity to the famous cities Kyoto, Nara and Osaka.
In order to refurbish the Shimomura bridge, owner and constructor were looking for a flexible and reliable solution to replace the existing asphalt plug joints.

In order to provide a Japan-wide valid solution for infrastructure projects, tests have been performed and successfully passed at the Japan Construction Method & Machinery Research in Stitute, Fuji.
The 12-step installation process is a standard procedure that allows lane-by-lane refurbishment and re-opening to traffic within 72 hours. This quick and trained installation has the advantage of avoiding extensive effects for traffic as well as keeping the work for the constructor and owner as low as possible. Moreover, the complete flush surface with the adjacent asphalt results in no additional noise emission to the environment. Another advantage is zero maintenance of the system.
