The Viaduc de la Grande Ravine is located on the east coast of the Island La Reunion in the Indian Ocean. La Réunion counts 800,000 inhabitants and is about 200 kilometres south west of its nearest neighbor, Mauritius.
The bridge construction is a part of the 34 km long Route des Tamarins, a highway connecting the city of Saint-Paul an l’Etay-Sale. The structure consists of a 288 meter long steel deck with an orthotropic slab. The 3500 ton heavy steel viaduct is based on concreted abutments and 50 m long braces. The bridge was built from April 2006 to March 2009 by the consortium Dodin/Vinci/Eiffel.
mageba delivered 4 RESTON-POT free sliding bearings with a load capacity of 5,000 kN installed at the abutments underneath the bridge deck.
Furthermore, mageba equipped the bridge with 4 RESTON-POT KF fixed bearings with a load capacity of 60,000kN, located on the top of the bracing members. These 4 big bearings are equipped with a load cell that allows measurements of actual load, and have a lifting capacity of 25 mm.
