The Tseung Kwan O Cross Bay Link is a 1.8-kilometer long two-lane carriageway, which includes a 1-kilometer long offshore double-arch steel bridge. This structure is the first marine viaduct in Hong Kong that, besides the traffic lanes, carries dedicated lanes for cyclists and pedestrians as well.
Spanning across the Junk Bay, the Cross Bay Link connects the southeastern areas of Tseung Kwan O with the Tseung Kwan O Lam Tin Tunnel, and provides a connection to Tiu Keng Leng and the Tseung Kwan O city centre.
Opened to traffic in 2022, the Cross Bay Link largely relieves the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel during rush hours, which was necessary due to the region’s rapidly growing traffic.
After supplying RESTON-POT bearings and TENSA-GRIP RS-B joints to the Lam Tin Tunnel Footbridge, mageba was again selected as the supplier of expansion joints for the Tseung Kwan O Cross Bay Bridge in 2021.
For the main bridge, 102 m of TENSA-MODULAR expansion joints of types LR5, LR8 and LR9 were supplied. The largest joint manufactured for the structure accommodates movements of 720 mm.
In addition to the modular joints, mageba also supplied 53.5 m of TENSA-FINGER RSFD cantilever finger joints. The largest finger joint delivered accommodates movements of 350 mm and features a large anchoring structure and a drainage gutter.
All joints were produced at mageba’s Shanghai factory and were hot dip galvanized.
