Another Mekong Delta landmark

Following the supply of 10-gap modular expansion joints for the My Thuan Bridge in 2021, mageba has now followed up with the supply of the bearings required by the nearby My Thuan II Bridge – the fifth major cable-stayed bridge in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region relying on mageba key components.

The Mỹ Thuận II Bridge is currently being constructed to cross the Tien Giang River on the Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam. Construction of the structure, with its length of almost two kilometres, will be completed in 2023, but the installation of the bearings to support its superstructure has already been completed in late 2022. mageba contributed to the bridge’s construction by designing and manufacturing bearings of various types, including LASTO®BLOCK elastomeric bearings of types NBa and VGa as well as RESTON®POT bearings. Prior to delivery to site, independent testing of the bearings was carried out in accordance with the project’s strict specifications.

The Mỹ Thuận II Bridge is just the latest in a series of major cable-stayed bridges in this small part of the Mekong Delta for which mageba has supplied key components. The structure is located just 350 metres upstream from the original Mỹ Thuận Bridge, for which mageba supplied replacement expansion joints (10-gap TENSA®MODULAR expansion joints) in 2021. And both bridges are within approximately 50 kilometres of three other cable-stayed bridges for which mageba also supplied 10-gap TENSA®MODULAR expansion joints over the previous decade and a half – the Rach Mieu Bridge (2007), the Can Tho Bridge (2009) and the Cao Lãnh Bridge (2017) – three bridges that we affectionately refer to as the “mageba Delta on the Mekong Delta”!

The Rach Mieu Bridge on the Mekong Delta, which opened in 2008, was constructed with 10-gap TENSA®MODULAR expansion joints facilitating its superstructure movements

The Can Tho Bridge on the Mekong Delta was also equipped with 10-gap TENSA®MODULAR expansion joints, along with other expansion joint types, in 2009

mageba also supplied 10-gap TENSA®MODULAR expansion joints for the Cao Lãnh Bridge in 2017

My Thuan Bridge – the 10-gap TENSA®MODULAR expansion joints required to replace the original non-mageba joints were manufactured in mageba’s Shanghai factory

My Thuan Bridge – transport of the 10-gap TENSA®MODULAR expansion joints from Shanghai to Vietnam was carried out by road due to shipping restrictions during the Covid pandemic

When completed, the My Thuan II Bridge (left) will be the fifth major cable-stayed bridge in this small part of the Mekong Delta featuring mageba key components
