mageba’s team in Australia has supplied hundreds of bridge bearings for the construction of a new railway line serving Western Sydney Airport.
When Sydney’s new international airport, Western Sydney Airport, opens for service in 2026, it will be served by a railway line of the Sydney Metro that is also currently being built. This rail link requires the construction of a viaduct of length 3.5 km, and mageba is proud to have designed and manufactured 348 RESTON®SPHERICAL bridge bearings to support its superstructure. These were designed to accommodate the various combinations of forces, movements and rotations arising along both sides of the structure and to suit the different anchorage limitations imposed by superstructure and substructure designs. Selected bridge bearings were tested in mageba’s NATA-accredited testing facility in Sydney, with test loads of over 10,000 kN applied.
A second major structure, a 190 m-long railway bridge over the new M12 motorway, which is also currently being built to serve the new airport, is also being constructed using mageba bearings – 70 LASTO®BLOCK elastomeric bearings and four RESTON®FORCE shear keys.
So if you travel to the airport after it opens, whether by road or rail, you are likely to travel either over or under a bridge that was constructed using mageba bearings!
