The M4 widening project was initiated to ease the regular traffic congestion at the Church Street junction of the Parramatta District and to provide a faster access towards the Homebush District of Sydney, but also to alleviate congestions around the ramps of the James Ruse Drive.
During the works, the M4 was widened from three to four lanes in each direction on an approximately 7.5-km-long section between Church Street and Homebush Bay Drive.
The project also included the widening of the Granville Viaduct and other existing bridges as well as the construction of new access ramps and a bridge.
mageba supplied a large number of bridge products for the new viaduct over the Duck River Creek.
In total 526 LASTO-BLOCK elastomeric bearings were delivered, each featuring steel attachment plates, along with 58 RESTON-SPHERICAL bearings.
The vertical load capacity of the largest spherical bearing is up to 2,200 kN.
