Located in Finland’s south-western archipelago, Lövön Bridge replaces a ferry between the mainland and an island. The two-lane bridge has a length of 473 m and its deck reaches to 18 metres above the sea. Its superstructure is a steel-concrete composite construction with concrete slabs on top of steel girders. The steel sections are the largest ever used for any bridge in Finland, the longest ones reaching 115 m in length and weighing 200 tonnes. The five sections were transported to the site for installation using a floating crane.
mageba supplied both structural bearings and expansion joints for the construction of this bridge. TENSA-MODULAR expansion joints of Type LR3, with a longitudinal movement capacity of 240mm, accommodate all deck movements and rotations at both ends of the bridge while providing a driving surface for traffic. RESTON-POT bearings with SLS load capacities of up to 7,600 kN vertically and 1,500 kN horizontally, and allowing sliding movements of up to +/- 150mm, support the deck at its abutments and piers.
