Nouvelle Route du Littoral

Project description

La Réunion island is a french territory in the Indian Ocean. The project “Route du Litorral” is located between Saint-Denis, which is also the capital town, and La Possession, where the island’s main harbour is situated. The new four lane coastal highway parallels the existing coastal road that runs along the volcanic cliffs.

Due to tropical storms and falling rocks this traffic route suffered frequently from flooding and landslides which had a significant impact on traffic safety.

In order to find a long-term solution that also respects and considers environmental restrictions, economic responsibilities and geographic circumstances, the owner, “La Région Réunion”, decided to build this new highway.

The precast concrete bridge has a length of 5,400 m with a main span of 120 m and a height of 3.8 to 7.3 m above sea level.

mageba scope

mageba delivered the following products:

– 84 RESTON®POT LIFT-CONTROL measuring bearings of type HP (high pressure)

– 28 RESTON®POT LIFT-CONTROL standard measuring bearings with CE-label

The largest bearing is designed with a maximal vertical load of 121,000 kN (ULS) and longitudinal movement of +/-400 mm.

The total weight of the delivered bearings is estimated to be 1,100 tons, with the heaviest bearing weighing 18 tons.

All bearings have been equipped with a high pressure pads and vertical load measuring sensors featuring digital displays that provide real-time data.

In addition, the installed bearings have a lifting capacity of 30 mm, which is achieved by the injection of a special hardening material.
