Singapore priority

The importance of quality in the ongoing construction of Singapore’s longest Transit Priority Corridor is evident in the use of tried-and-trusted mageba bridge bearings and expansion joints.

Singapore’s new North-South Corridor is currently being built as the city-state’s first “Integrated Transport Corridor”, connecting the city’s centre to its northern suburbs over a length of approximately 21.5 km. When completed in 2026 it will be Singapore’s longest Transit Priority Corridor, featuring dedicated bus lanes, cycle routes and pedestrian paths.

A key structure in the section that is currently being constructed is a viaduct of 1.11 kilometres length between Ang Mo Kio Ave 9 and Sg Seletar, which requires a large number of bearings and expansion joints. mageba was entrusted with the supply contract, having already proven its reliability as a supply partner for the key components of the city’s transportation infrastructure – most notably in recent years in designing and manufacturing the 273 RESTON®POT bearings required for a major citywide bearing replacement project involving 36 bridges.

For the current viaduct construction project, mageba supplied 66 structural bearings of the type RESTON®SPHERICAL with maximum vertical load capacities of up to 12,300 kN, and installed them following independent testing by DNV.

Several hundred metres of expansion joint are also being supplied as part of the contract, including 110 m of TENSA®CRETE (Type RE) single gap expansion joints and 254 m of TENSA®FINGER (Type RSFD) cantilever finger expansion joints.

Thanks to the strong emphasis that mageba has always placed on maximising the long-term performance of these and all the company’s other products, making a priority of minimising the associated life-cycle costs for structure owners and operators, we look forward to building on our reputation in Singapore as a reliable supply partner in the construction of the country’s transportation infrastructure.
